I attended Peranakan Beadwork My Heritage Book Launch by renowned Singapore Peranakan beader, Bebe Seet at The Peranakan Museum. Peranakan Beadwork, an auspicious 228-page volume on Peranakan Beadwork history and details of making Nonya shoes. This book is funded in part by the National Heritage Board's Heritage Industry Incentive Programme and specialize on the beading techniques used by the Peranakans.
The lovely ladies demonstrated the traditional Peranakan way of making Kasot Manek (Nonya beaded slippers) . Beading methods were usually passed down through word of mouth, with mother training daughter in the Peranakan community. The favoured motifs are roses , butterflies , dragonflies and auspicious objects and preferred colours are usually turquoise , pink and black .

Peranakan Beadwork My Heritage was available at a special price of $88 at the book launch and for this weekend only at her boutique Rumah Bebe at East Coast Road. The book will be sold at $117.70 from monday onwards at Rumah Bebe, Kinokuniya, Select Books and the Museum Shop.
