I was in awe of Maggie Cheung – totally star struck and how she have grown through the years from a newbie in comedian films like Happy Ghost which i watched as a child, Soong Sister when i was a student ( i still have the framed movie poster in my room) till now an accomplished multi-awarding winning stellar actress and superstar, warm and amicable.
Maggie revealed how
Olay’s philosophy “Challenge What’s Possible” connects to her experiences in breaking new boundaries in life, career, beauty and skincare in fluent English. She hopes that millions of women around the world will be inspired and embrace the Olay Philosophy “ just like how Olay has done for me.”
When she first started her career, she was casted in comedian movies and stereotyping roles as she have funny bunny teeth. As she wanted to be a more serious actress, at the age of 25, Maggie wore braces and fixed her funny buck teeth.
With ‘normal’ teeth, she was cast in her first of many collaborations with film director Wong Kar-wai 王家衛, with ‘As Tears Go By’ as the movie that truly began her serious acting career, followed by film director Stanley Kwan“CentreStage” in 1992.
Maggie Cheung was also the first Asian actress to win the Best Actress title at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival In Clean as Emma, as well as in Centre Stage as 阮玲玉 at 42nd Berlin International Film Festival and Chicago International Film Festival, challenging what’s possible in her career.
In the area of Challenging What’s Possible in her personal life, Maggie Cheung in recent years shifted her focus from serious acting to philanthropy to contribute more for the society. She co-founded the Olay Women Innovation and Dream Fund in 2008, funded by Olay and the Soong Ching-Ling Foundation to sponsor 10 university students to help them realise their dreams.
She also became the first-ever Chinese ambassador for UNICEF China in 2010, using her celebrity status to bring aid to children in need.
Her secret to Challenge What’s Possible in Beauty and Skincare is having the right skincare for your skin. "Pick your skincare and use like 5 core items from the same brand. When you have picked the products you love as the right base, you can mix and match 1 or 2 products with other brands”.
"With your skin in tiptop condition, you won’t have to spend too much time on your makeup, do the things you love and don’t worry about a wrinkle, especially when you can be doing something meaningful and contributing back to society with that same amount of time.' Words of Wisdom indeed.
