The nationwide fashion competition drew entries from more than 100 aspiring fashion designers using at least 80% different forms of trash materials like plastics, carton boxes and recyclables to design.
The 10 shortlisted finalists had their creations transformed to real wearable pieces, debuted down 313@somerset runway to a cheering crowd and 3 winners were crowned, walking away with trophies and S$18,000 worth of cash and Lendlease E-vouchers.
Lendlease aims to educate local shoppers about the consequences of wastage in the fashion industry and enlighten their purchasing decisions as well as to shape new perceptions and openness to how waste can be given a second life, in line with Singapore’s Zero Waste vision. Andrea Angelique Karundeng, 21, 2nd runner-up, Raffles College of Higher Education student used cardboard boxes, coffee jute sacks and paper to create her nature inspired dress with black sculpture head turning accessories which alone took 3 weeks to complete.
